2010 SCHOLARSHIP PROCESS

Susan Blachowiak, Scholarship Chair

In October, I stated there was multiple scholarship OPPORTUNITIES for WASCOE members;

to be exact there are three separate and distinct scholarships.  All applications are fillable and

on-line at www.wiwascoe.org under scholarships.

YOU MUST GO TO THE WEBSITE TO FILL OUT THE FORMS, be sure to print them out and sign them.

By deadline dates your options are as follows;

1) MEMBER SCHOLARSHIP- due January 15 to the Midwest Area Chairperson (Les Maierhofer, 7775A Route 47, Yorkville IL  60560).  This scholarship is available to all WASCOE/NASCOE members that are taking college courses to enhance their careers with FSA are eligible.  Each area will award one $200.00 scholarship. Kudos to JM Marketing has been our partner for three years in this venture.  The application must be certified by a state association approving official (Mary Behm, WASCOE Treasurer) verifying membership eligibility before sending it the Midwest Area Chair (no electronic applications).

2) NASCOE SCHOLARSHIP – due February 20 to the WI Scholarship Chair (Susan Blachowiak – Dodge County FSA, 451 W. North Street, Juneau WI 53039).  Applicants must be a NASCOE member, member’s spouse, member’s child, or member’s legal dependent and either a high school senior or graduate with a minimum of a C average in both the junior an senior year or may be a full-time (minimum of 12 credit hours) college student with a minimum of a C average up to the Bachelor Degree level.  The NASCOE member’s dues must be paid and membership kept current for the past 5 years, or since becoming a permanent FSA County Office Employee. Applications must include an official transcript of your high school and college grades, if applicable. College students may include a high school transcript if they wish to have them considered for rating.  All applicants must submit a letter of recommendation and signatures must be obtained from the state association approving official (Mary Behm, WASCOE Treasurer) verifying membership eligibility before submitting the application to the state scholarship chairperson.  In other words, plan some extra time.  The state chairperson will not be responsible for assembling applications.

The evaluation criteria are based on ability, incentive assistance, and other personal characteristics.  Area winners are selected from state entries. The national winner is selected from the area winners.   All the information and applications for both the NASCOE scholarships is posted on the NASCOE website (www.nascoe.org).

3) WASCOE SCHOLARSHIPS – due February 20 to the WI Scholarship Chair (Susan Blachowiak).   Since our auction has been so successful and funds are more than adequate, the Board of Directors decided to add another scholarship.

For 2010 there will be four scholarships:  1-$1500, 1-$1000, 1 - $750 and 1-$500.

The application process consists of the application, supporting documentation (official transcripts, letters of recommendation from guidance counselor/advisor- not teachers), work and/or extracurricular activities document and a one page essay.  All scholarship information and applications are posted on the WASCOE website (www.wiwascoe.org).

I urge all members to get involved; volunteer to judge the applications (seven more needed), encourage fellow employees to apply, encourage all kids who haven’t been awarded a scholarship to apply, and start thinking of creative auction items.  I told you there were multiple OPPORTUNITIES!  Contact me if interested in getting involved!----Susan
